New to the game? Here's what you need to know before you start collecting.
Disney Lorcana is one of the newest trading card games on the market, and it's grown fast — built around Disney and Pixar characters reimagined as "Illumineers" summoning glimmers of their favourite characters into battle. If you're just getting started, here's the short version.
Each player builds a deck around two of the game's six Ink colors — Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, and Steel — each with its own playstyle. You play cards by spending Ink (generated by "inking" a card from your hand each turn), and the goal is to reach 20 Lore before your opponent does, earned by questing with your Character cards.
Lorcana rarities run Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare, Legendary, and the especially sought-after foil Enchanted cards, plus occasional Iconic promos — similar in spirit to other modern TCGs, with Enchanted cards typically commanding the highest prices in any set.
Most new players start with a Starter Deck built around two colors, then pick up booster packs or singles to round it out. Because Lorcana is still young compared to Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh!, complete-set collecting is genuinely achievable for newer chapters, which is part of what's made it popular with collectors as well as players.
